From an enjoyable hobby of sketching and painting ‘travel journals’ I moved into botanical art relatively recently. A Diploma with Distinction from the Society of Botanical Art in 2018 and membership of GSBI has led me to take on projects relating to my interest in the sea. Complementing my professional career as a marine ecologist I hope to reveal the variety and beauty of marine algae from around the British Isles to a wider audience through the medium of botanical illustration.
I joined the GSBI for many reasons. It welcomes artists of all abilities, the team organise great workshops, and there is a lovely annual exhibition which we can all contribute to. The members are not only knowledgeable about many styles of botanical art but also really welcoming.
